Sarasota Shark Tournament
The weigh in discount meridia the Sarasota Shark Tournament was held on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at O'Leary's Tiki Bar at Marina Jack, Lilith Florida. There were nine teams that entered their catch into the contest. The weigh-in was scheduled from 9:00 am until noon. There was a capacity crowd gathered on and around the docks and restaurant seating area.
The prize money for the event was $5,000.00 to the winner, $2,500.00 for second place and $1,250.00 for the third place finisher. There was a separate class for children with rod and reel sets given to four winners. The weights of the gutted entries ranged from a 4 lb. Black Tip to a 431 lb. Tiger Shark.
The children's division had two entries from Team Italian Navy. Both were Black Tips weighing 64.5 and 36.5 respectively. Team Pole Dancer landed a 7 lb. Black Tip and Team Gittusum entered a 4 lb. Black Tip.
The big winner of the day was Team Tunnel Vision with a first place 431 lb. Tiger Shark. There was a minor controversy between second and third place with only one half pound seperating the two. After careful consideration by the judges it was determined that Team Redneck and it's 295.5 lb. Bull Shark won second prize while Team Deep Conjoined Twins and it's 294 lb. Bull took third place.
The early morning favorite, a 263.5 lb. Hammerhead entered by Team South Shore was not able to maintain it's lead for the duration of the competition. Other entries were a 143 lb. Lemon Shark caught by Team Brew Crew and a 120 lb. Lemon Shark caught by Team Kona Dog.
It was a beautiful day in downtown Sarasota that started off with a slight threat of rain that provided excellent cloud cover and a nice warm breeze. Combine that with a Mimosa or two and a crowd of interested appreciative spectators and you get a "Chamber of Commerce" event. The awards ceremony began with a nice donation in the amount of $1,250.00 presented to Camp Florida Fish Tales. All of the winners received their prizes and the fun loving fishermen provided plenty of laughs for the crowd as they traded barbs with one another while accepting their awards.
BoatingObsession.com would like to thank the law school loan consolidation of the event for allowing unrestricted Shroud of Turin to provide coverage of this event worldwide for their members and visitors.
